The distillery’s homage to blues music highlights a harmonious flavor.

When Blue Note Bourbon first released its Honey Cask Bourbon, the offering was a bona fide hit. The almost instantaneous sellout had many drinkers longing for a coveted bottle. A secondary release is now available, and everyone is racing to get a bottle.

As the oldest distillery in Memphis, B.R. Distilling Co appreciates how American music influences the brand’s releases. Several of Blue Note’s releases have names associated with local music. For the brand, it is more than just a curious name or a fun play on words. The community is just as important as the attention to craft. Finding the perfect harmony is key to the brand’s success.

One of the reasons why this distillery has found its niche is due to its locale. Nestled away from the “heat island affect,” the area’s microclimate with high humidity and consistent temperatures allows the distillers to control the aging process and produce a splendid spirit.

In October 2024, Blue Note Bourbon released Honey Cask Bourbon. The special, limited offering was well received. The new offering is expected to be just as successful.

2025 Honey Cask Bourbon celebrates a nuanced, unique sweetness

For the 2025 Honey Cask Bourbon release, Blue Note offers a strong ABV. Bottled at 113.86 proof, this bourbon is a heavy hitter. Just like the bold beat in a blues song, this spirit makes a big first impression. Over time, it reveals more, yet that initial hook brings people back for another sip.

This particular release has a new build. According to the distiller, it is 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley. That composition combined with the region’s long summers creates a unique flavor that cannot be matched.

This release is made by aging the bourbon for a minimum of three years in honey-infused casks. The combination of sweetness with the influence of florals creates a complex flavor.

Overall, the nose feels a touch masculine. While there is an underlying vanilla. It is the cedar and the nuttiness that imply a hearty strength. Although it is not a walk in the woods, there is something sturdy, even confident, that presents itself.

The palate has a lovely juxtaposition of wildflowers and honey versus leather and cedar. They do not compete with each other. Rather, it is like a spirited jam session that one would expect in a blues song. Each one adds its own layer to the flavor story.

Lastly, the finish is a celebration in sweetness. The honey, and even wildflower, is subtle yet satisfying. It is like that sense of serenity that you feel while walking through a meadow of flowers.

The Blue Note Honey Bourbon Cask is available to purchase online at BlueNoteBourbon.com. The retail price is $64.99. Only 1,800 bottles are available.
