Teacher's Launches First Highland Single Malt Range

Teacher’s, the whisky brand known for its malt-forward Highland Cream blended Scotch, is launching its first range of Highland single malts, comprising 12-year-old, 15-year-old and 18-year-old expressions. The trio is distilled and matured at The Ardmore Distillery in the Scottish Highlands, and will roll out across India first before reaching global travel retail from January 2027.

The Ardmore has long supplied the lightly peated malt at the heart of Teacher’s blends. The distillery was established at Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire in 1898 in order to secure supplies of malt whisky for the increasingly popular Highland Cream blend.

The new range brings that Highland style to the forefront, with each expression balancing gentle smoke and sweetness alongside the brand’s smooth, creamy character.

READ THE STORY

The Teacher’s 12-Year-Old Single Malt is bottled at 40% ABV with a global travel retail RSP of £41 ($55 USD). According to the official notes from the brand, it offers green apple, orange peel, ginger and gentle woodsmoke.

The Teacher’s 15-Year-Old Single Malt is also 40% ABV, priced at £58 ($78 USD). Its longer maturation in ex-bourbon casks delivers added depth, with softened smoke and a more pronounced vanilla and caramel character.

The Teacher’s 18-Year-Old Highland Single Malt, 40% ABV, carries an RSP of £78 ($105 USD). Finished in Oloroso sherry casks, its official brand notes cite plums, dates, toffee, ginger and aromatic smoke.

Dr Calum Fraser, master blender, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, said: “Teacher’s has always been defined by its unusually high proportion of malt that offers rich and full-flavoured whiskies. This single malt range allows drinkers to experience that character on its own, drawn directly from The Ardmore that has been at the heart of the blends for almost 130 years.”

Kirsteen Beeston, senior marketing director, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, said: “This may seem an unexpected move from a well-established blended whisky maker but, in the true spirit of its founder, Teacher’s always does things its own way.”

She added: “We know whisky fans are looking to expand their repertoire from blends to malts, and Teacher’s now offers both. Whisky enthusiasts in India show particularly strong loyalty to the brand, and it’s extremely popular amongst travellers in global travel retail, so, what better way to reward these fans than to offer the new range to them first.”

The decision to lead with India reflects the brand’s standing there. Historically, almost all of Ardmore’s output went into Teacher’s, which remains one of the best-selling Scotch blends in India and Brazil.

The single malts are available now from specialist whisky shops across India, with global travel retail debuting in the Middle East from January 2027, followed by Singapore, China, Sri Lanka and Australia.
