Pursuit Spirits released Pursuit United Kodama Mizunara Bourbon, a limited-edition 117-proof whiskey blending Japanese Mizunara oak-finished and infrared-toasted American oak bourbons, available from October 11 at its Louisville Whiskey Row location for $89.99.
The new bourbon combines two whiskies sharing the same Triple Mash Bourbon base but finished differently to create what the company calls a superior blend.
“We knew the world didn’t need yet another Mizunara finished bourbon,” said Ryan Cecil, Master Blender and Co-Founder of Pursuit Spirits. “In true Pursuit fashion, we had to be different and craft a blend that would showcase something brand new.”

READ THE STORYThe name “Kodama” references tree spirits in Japanese folklore, honoring the oak’s role in whiskey production.
Japanese Mizunara oak, known for its rarity and high cost, contributes exotic spice and dry, woody notes to the blend. The infrared-toasted American oak component delivers intense vanilla character and sweetness.
The cask-strength bourbon is blended to taste rather than formula.
Official tasting notes from the brand describe a nose beginning with fresh ginger and glazed pears, followed by sandalwood and cardamom. The taste features brown sugar, candied ginger, umami notes, French vanilla, and orange marmalade. The finish is long with cacao, toasted oak, sandalwood, and hot cinnamon candies.
Pursuit Spirits operates from the founders of the Bourbon Pursuit podcast. The company sources and blends whiskeys from multiple distilleries rather than operating a traditional distillery.
Pursuit United Kodama Mizunara Bourbon will be available at the company’s Whiskey Row location at 722 W. Main Street starting Saturday, October 11.
