Loch Lomond Whiskies has released Waypoint 31 Year Old, the oldest and most prestigious expression in its Waypoint Series of single malts. The whisky is available globally from selected specialist retailers from 1 September, priced at £750 ($1,010).
The release is the oldest peated whisky ever bottled by Loch Lomond Distillery. It is limited to just 2,600 bottles worldwide.

Waypoint 31 Year Old is the third expression in the series. It joins Waypoint 16 Year Old and Waypoint 17 Year Old.
The single malt celebrates the trail between Inversnaid and Inverarnan on the north-east shores of Loch Lomond. This route forms one of the most challenging sections of the West Highland Way.

The whisky was matured in three types of ex-Bourbon American oak casks. It was then finished for 12 months in Tawny Port pipes.
Loch Lomond crafted the expression using its signature straight neck stills. The distillery is the only one in Scotland to house both traditional swan neck stills and its unique straight neck stills.

According to the official notes from the brand, the nose offers blackberry and honey. The palate shows dark chocolate, raspberry and cedarwood. The finish delivers woodsmoke and dark fruits.
"Heavily peated whiskies are rare within our collection, so bringing our oldest ever peated single malt to bottle is a huge honour," said Michael Henry, master blender at Loch Lomond Whiskies.
"After 31 years of maturation, the whisky has developed a deep, rich rose colour and remarkable layers of dark chocolate, raspberry, cedarwood and woodsmoke," Henry added.
"What makes it particularly special is how clearly the character of the original distillate still shines through, despite its significant maturation journey," he continued.
Henry described the Waypoint Series as "a celebration of our namesake, Loch Lomond." He added: "It has been one of my favourite collections to work on."
The expression is presented in an etched, handcrafted wooden case featuring an internal copper tube. It carries artwork by illustrator Brett Breckon depicting the route from Inversnaid to Inverarnan.
Waypoint 31 Year Old is non-chill filtered, natural in colour and bottled at 44.1% ABV.
