Hollywood legend Harrison Ford has given his seal of approval to Glenmorangie’s new 25-year-old single malt whisky, becoming one of the first to taste The Altus in the distillery’s latest brand campaign.

The Highland distillery released Glenmorangie The Altus 25 Years Old on August 12, 2025, as a permanent addition to its core range. The whisky combines spirit matured in classic bourbon casks with whisky finished in Madeira wine casks, creating what the distillery describes as sweet, fruity flavors with butter-candy undertones.

Harrison Ford Stars in Glenmorangie The Altus Campaign

Ford appears in episode 10 of Glenmorangie’s “Once Upon a Time in Scotland” campaign series. In the “Teamwork” episode, Senior Tour Guide Emily Ross hands Ford a mystery dram while Distillery Manager Ed Thom tells him it’s “something very special.”

Quick whisky question

Single malt is everywhere, but what does it mean? We want to know what the word “single” means to you. Three quick questions, under a minute.

After tasting the whisky, Ford raises his glass to the assembled distillery workers and says: “You guys do good work. Here’s to your creation. To the good people of Glenmorang-y. Cheers.” The scene ends with a humorous moment when distillery worker Alan Duff Junior corrects Ford’s pronunciation. (Glenmorangie, rhymes with orangey).

Ed Thom revealed that Ford’s reaction was genuine. “After filming stopped, he shared his appreciation and praise for the craftmanship of the team who created it. He was very relaxed during breaks. He even told us a few jokes – which we promised to keep a secret if he didn’t tell anyone about The Altus before it was released!”

Emily Ross, Senior Tour Guide at Glenmorangie Distillery, who hands Harrison the dram of The Altus, added: “The whole experience was unreal. I’ve always been a Harrison Ford fan, so I was excited to meet him. He was incredibly down-to-earth, humble, and genuine. It was a day I’ll never forget; a real moment in Glenmorangie’s history.”

Glenmorangie The Altus Represents 30 Years of Innovation

The Altus embodies nearly three decades of innovation by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation and Master Distiller. Since joining Glenmorangie in 1995, Dr. Bill has refined the distillery’s production methods to create more delicate spirits.

The whisky begins with spirit from Glenmorangie’s unusually tall stills, which allow more space for taste and aroma development. It then ages in carefully selected bourbon barrels, including the distillery’s “designer” casks made from American oak to Dr. Bill’s specifications.

A portion of the whisky receives additional maturation in Malmsey Madeira casks, paying homage to Glenmorangie’s pioneering 1995 Madeira-finished whisky. According to official tasting notes, The Altus offers aromas of carnation, orange blossom, and honey, with flavors of mandarin, apples, pears, and peach alongside gooseberry tartness, marzipan, and ripe banana.

Dr. Bill said: “The Altus’s 25-year journey is a true celebration of Glenmorangie’s acclaimed house style – presenting it at a new pinnacle of flavour. We were delighted that Harrison Ford became one of the first to taste the whisky in Once Upon A Time in Scotland – and are very glad it met with his approval!”

The Altus completes a trio of flagship expressions alongside Glenmorangie Original 12 Years Old and Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Years Old. It retails for £550 and is available at specialist retailers, the distillery visitor center in Tain, and online at glenmorangie.com.

The launch of Glenmorangie The Altus comes on the heels of the announcement that Glenmorangie is now the official whisky of Formula One. The season continues.
