A Nevada distillery known for its farm-to-glass approach has released a limited-edition wheat whiskey that sold out in minutes during its previous launch.
Frey Ranch Distillery announced the release of its Harvester Series: Second Harvest, a 122.44-proof wheat whiskey priced at $249.99. The ultra-premium release consists of only 600 numbered bottles, with distribution split between online lottery sales and the distillery’s tasting room in Fallon, Nevada.
The new expression marks a departure from the brand’s inaugural Harvester Series release, which featured a rye-heavy blend. Second Harvest contains 52.5% wheat whiskey as its base, complemented by various bourbon and barley whiskey components aged between four and eight years.
Frey Ranch Partners with Master Blender for Harvester Series: Second Harvest
The distillery collaborated with Master Blender Nancy Fraley to create the blend, working alongside founders Colby and Ashley Frey and Master Distiller Russell Wedlake. The team selected barrels from the distillery’s stock of whiskeys made from grains grown on the Frey family farm.
“Imagine my delight when I got the call from Colby & Ashley to partner with them for the Second Harvest blend. What’s so exciting about this project is the chance to experiment with wholly unique blends where the sky is the limit,” said Nancy Fraley. “First Harvest was a 71% rye blend, so when we looked at the composition for this new blend, we knew that we wanted to start with a wheat-forward base to create a whiskey with a softer, sweeter, and more delicate taste profile.”
The whiskey’s official tasting notes describe aromas of hot chocolate with crème de menthe, banana pudding, and caramel macchiato. The palate features Sierra Nevada alfalfa blossom honey, crème brulee, and orange marmalade, with a soft, creamy finish.
Limited Availability Drives Lottery System for Frey Ranch Release
Following the rapid sellout of First Harvest — which disappeared online in 17 minutes and from the tasting room in under an hour — Frey Ranch has implemented a lottery system through the EQL platform. The online lottery runs from September 26th at 10 a.m. PST through September 29th at midnight, offering 333 bottles.
An additional 150 bottles will be available at the Frey Ranch Tasting Room on September 27, with each customer limited to one bottle. Select retailers in Nevada and California will receive limited allocations in the coming weeks.
The bottle design reflects the farm’s heritage, featuring a recycled metal tractor topper instead of the traditional stopper and packaging resembling a grain silo. The Frey family motto, “Be good to the land and the land will be good to you,” appears on the packaging.
The release coincides with Frey Ranch’s annual Whiskey Harvest period between August and October, when Co-Founder Colby Frey harvests the corn, wheat, barley, rye, and oats used in production. The distillery maintains its position as one of the few American whiskey producers controlling the entire process from grain cultivation through distillation.
