Whisky has always been rooted in place, but increasingly, the most exciting blends are crossing borders. Distilled in one country and matured in another, or marrying spirits from entirely different traditions, these whiskies challenge old boundaries while honoring the craft at their core.

What unites them isn’t geography, but imagination: Irish and American whiskeys fused into one, Scotch aged under the Spanish sun, or Japanese malt blended with ocean water and global grain. These five global whiskies are shaped by collaboration, climate, and curiosity — a world of flavor in every glass. So, let’s take a trip around the globe and discover some border-crossing blends for you to explore in 2025.

Scotland, USA, Ireland, Germany, & England – Woven Superblend

Woven’s Superblend breaks the mould by blending whiskies from five countries into one harmonious dram. Featuring malt and grain from Scotland, plus distinctive spirits from the USA, Ireland, Germany, and England, it’s a whisky born from curiosity rather than tradition.

According to Woven’s website, the whisky hovers between balance and complexity, showcasing dominant notes of fruit and malt, tempered by woody and floral notes.

The Edinburgh-based blenders behind Woven believe flavor shouldn’t be constrained by geography. Superblend was their first foray into “world whisky,” legally married outside Scotland to navigate industry regulations. Its creation reflects a global mindset and the belief that great whisky can come from anywhere.

The name ‘Superblend’ is a nod to the team’s secret identity as international blenders, channeling their whisky-making superpowers into one rich, layered expression. It’s a bold statement: this is “whisky without borders”.

Ireland & USA – Keeper’s Heart Irish + American Whiskey

Crafted by two whiskey visionaries — Ireland’s Brian Nation (formerly of Jameson and Redbreast) and High West founder David Perkins — Keeper’s Heart brings together the elegance of Irish whiskey with the bold spice of American rye. This transatlantic blend combines Irish grain and single pot still whiskeys with American rye, creating a spirit that’s both familiar and entirely new.

On the nose, it’s bright and floral with hints of baking spice. The palate is layered with candied ginger, lemon zest, vanilla, and sweet biscuits, rounded out by stewed fruit and freshly charred oak. The finish is long, with a pleasant spiced caramel warmth.

It’s a whiskey born of collaboration and mutual respect — a fusion of two traditions that play beautifully together in the glass.

Ireland & England – The Pogues Streams of Whiskey

A whiskey as bold and lyrical as the band it’s named after, Streams of Whiskey blends Irish and English whiskies — a nod to The Pogues’ Anglo-Irish heritage. Crafted by West Cork Distillers, this high-malt blend is matured in bourbon casks and bottled at 40% ABV, making it an accessible, characterful sipper.

On the nose, expect sweet vanilla and rich oak, layered with fruity malt. The palate is rich and rounded, with wood spice, citrus, and a touch of sweet corn, finishing long with soft toffee and lingering vanilla.

Inspired by the band’s anthemic song Streams of Whiskey, this blend captures the rebellious spirit and Celtic soul of The Pogues — a whiskey made for those who, like the band, go where the wind and the whisky flow.

Scotland & Spain – Nomad Outland Whisky

Distilled in Speyside, matured in Jerez — Nomad lives up to its name. This whisky spends six years ageing in bourbon barrels in Scotland before travelling to southern Spain, where it matures for a further year in Pedro Ximénez sherry butts at González Byass. The unique climate of Jerez, with its higher angel’s share, shapes a whisky unlike any found in Scotland alone.

Expect a soft, elegant palate with flavors of raisins, honey, and the unmistakable depth of old sherry. Aromas of malt, oak, and subtle sweetness give way to a long finish of vanilla and dried fruits.

Nomad is the only whisky matured entirely in Jerez, pushing the boundaries of tradition. It’s a seamless blend of Scottish craft and Spanish soul — a whisky shaped by two cultures and two climates.

Japan & The Rest of The World – Umiki Ocean Fused Whisky

Umiki is a world whisky with a distinctly Japanese philosophy. It blends Japanese malt whisky with imported grain whisky from undisclosed sources, then fuses the spirit with desalinated ocean water and finishes it in barrels made from Japanese pine. The result is a whisky that’s both rooted in tradition and shaped by the sea.

The nose offers fresh floral notes and gentle woodiness. On the palate, expect light honey, pine, and a subtle salinity that nods to its maritime influence. The finish is smooth, soft, and slightly herbal.

Named after “Umi” (ocean) and “Ki” (tree/spirit), Umiki is crafted by Yoshino Spirits in Japan and stands as a rare example of a global whisky that honors nature in both process and profile. It’s not just a blend of world whiskies, but of elements — land, sea, and tradition.
