Tomatin Distillery’s experimental single malt brand, Cù Bòcan, has launched its latest limited edition, Creation #7, to celebrate two decades of peated spirit production at the distillery. The new Scotch whisky was matured in a combination of rare Pineau des Charentes Rouge and American virgin oak casks, with only 3,000 bottles available globally.

Creation #7 marks a significant milestone for the Highland distillery, which has conducted a seasonal run of peated spirit every winter since 2005. This release is the seventh edition in the brand’s experimental Creations series.

The maturation took place in casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a French fortified wine from the Charente and Charente-Maritime regions of western France. This apéritif is made by blending fresh grape must with Cognac eau-de-vie.

This new bottling builds on Tomatin’s experience with French fortified wine casks, which was previously showcased in its French Collection.

“Creation #7 is Cù Bòcan’s most limited Creations release to date and is more than a whisky but an invitation to explore,” said Scott Adamson, blender and global brand ambassador.

He continued: “The Pineau des Charentes Rouge casks are rarely used in Scotch whisky maturation and influence the lightly peated spirit to unlock nostalgic and unexpected flavours.”

The Cù Bòcan brand was inspired by lightly-peated spirit historically produced at Tomatin over a century ago. The brand focuses on pushing flavor boundaries through unusual cask combinations.

According to the distillery, Cù Bòcan’s winter distillation period coincides with very low water temperatures, which allows for faster condensation of the distillate. This process results in a slightly oilier mouthfeel in the new make spirit.

The whisky is presented in a bespoke bottle with engraved contours designed to echo smoke and cask staves. It is housed in a vivid pink and yellow carton, a nod to the spirit’s flavor profile of rhubarb and custard.

Bottled at 46% ABV, the single malt is non-chill filtered and has a natural color.

Cù Bòcan Creation #7 is available from 24 November 2025, with a recommended retail price of £45 (approx. US$59). Of the 3,000 bottles produced, 1,400 will be allocated to the UK market.

According to official notes from the brand, the whisky has a nose of “rhubarb crumble with custard, ginger and cinnamon.” The palate offers a “whisp of smoke followed by toasted brioche, butter shortbread, strawberry and raspberry,” leading to a long finish with a mineral edge.
