Ian Macleod Distillers’ Tamdhu Distillery has launched its 21-year-old single malt Scotch whisky in the United States. The Speyside expression is matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks and will be available for a suggested retail price of $399.99.
The whisky is bottled at 47.5% ABV and is non-chill-filtered.
Tamdhu, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Spey, is known for its dedication to full Oloroso sherry cask maturation. This commitment is a hallmark of the brand under owner Ian Macleod Distillers, which acquired the distillery in 2011.
Sandy McIntyre, distillery manager, said: “Our patience and dedication shines through in every sip of Tamdhu 21YO. This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from.”
“Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavor,” he added.
The oak for the casks is sourced from Spain and North America, with the casks crafted in the cooperages and bodegas of Jerez, Spain.
Gordon Dundas, global brand ambassador for Tamdhu, said: “This limited ‘coming of age’ 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavor profile and entirely natural color that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive.”
The spirit is presented in an octagonal bottle housed in a green gift case. Its design reflects the Spanish-Moorish influence of the sherry casks used for maturation.
According to the official notes from the brand, the nose has sherried oak with chocolate, sultanas, and velvety toffee.
The palate delivers “Christmas cake notes” of sherry-soaked raisins and candied oranges. Its finish is described as long and smooth with waves of oak, warm spices, and rich fruits.
Tamdhu 21-Year-Old is available now through Total Wine & More and other specialist whisky retailers in the US.
