A new limited edition single malt whisky from Kingsbarns Distillery honors the sport of golf with the release of Caddies’ Dream, coinciding with the 2025 Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.
Golf-Inspired Whisky Celebrates Local Heritage
The St Andrews-based distillery has unveiled a 10-year-old single cask expression bottled at 46% ABV and priced at $162 (£120). With just over 200 bottles produced, the release pays tribute to co-founder Douglas Clement’s time as a caddie at Kingsbarns Links, where he first envisioned creating a local whisky experience for visiting golfers.
“I still remember golfers asking me, time and again, where they could find a local distillery tour,” Clement said. “At the time, there was nothing nearby, the closest options were an hour away in Perthshire or south of Edinburgh.”
The limited release represents the first Kingsbarns expression to draw direct inspiration from golf. Each bottle reflects the journey from Clement’s initial idea to the established distillery that now welcomes thousands of visitors annually.
Limited Edition Wine Cask Maturation
According to official tasting notes from Isabella Wemyss, the distillery’s blender, Caddies’ Dream offers bright red berries, cherry, pear and apple on the nose with toasted oak and vanilla. The palate delivers strawberry, redcurrant and plum with subtle spice and cocoa notes, finishing with gentle oak and red wine tannins.
The whisky matured for 10 years in a single STR barrique, a type of wine cask that underwent shaving, toasting and re-charring. This maturation process distinguishes it from Kingsbarns’ core range expressions.
Bottles are available exclusively through the Kingsbarns Visitor Centre and the distillery’s online shop, limited to two per person. Select bars in St Andrews, including the Old Course Hotel, will also feature the whisky.
The distillery confirmed additional golf-inspired releases are planned for 2026, suggesting this marks the beginning of a new series celebrating the area’s sporting heritage.
