Fettercairn Distillery has launched The Journey, its first customer-exclusive single malt whisky created by W Club members of The Whisky Shop. The limited edition release consists of just 528 bottles priced at £99 ($130), available exclusively through The Whisky Shop stores and online.

W Club members, The Whisky Shop’s “most loyal connoisseurs”, were invited to blind taste five samples shortlisted by Fettercairn Distillery Manager Stewart Walker.

The winning selection comprises two ex-bourbon barrels filled in 2018, followed by a short finish in stout casks.

“We asked The Whisky Shop’s W Club members to help us find something exceptional from the casks being nurtured in hidden corners of our warehouse, and they did not disappoint,” said Stewart Walker, Fettercairn Distillery Manager. “Our first-ever customer-exclusive single malt balances the beautiful tropical fruits our whisky is known for, with fresh green apples, hints of citrus, herbaceous malt and hops on the nose. There are also notes of toasted pineapple and green mango alongside sweet biscuit, hints of chocolate, café au lait and patisserie spice, developing to a gentle hint of white pepper on the palate.”

Global whisky specialist, Andrew Lennie, added, “I’ve been a W Club member for six years and have made some great friends through it, so having a bottle not only exclusive to The Whisky Shop but also selected by its members was a real highlight.”

“The shortlisted whiskies each offered a unique twist on Fettercairn’s tropical house style, and the chosen one had an extra special touch; its finishing casks came from a local brewery. It’s a great example of collaboration and community at work. And it’s delicious, too.”

Founded in 1824 and nestled at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains, Fettercairn has become known for its innovative production methods. The distillery utilizes a signature copper cooling ring, an industry-first innovation that helps create its characteristic light, tropical style.
