Lowland-based Bladnoch Distillery recently announced the worldwide release of Bladnoch Vinaya Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
By using 1st fill ex-bourbon barrels, there is what is said to be a highlight of floral notes in the drink, along with a citrusy sweetness, according to Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage. Savage says the use of 1st fill ex-sherry casks adds a subtle rich body to the whisky, finishing with notes of chocolate.

“As we embark on the 204th year of Bladnoch Distillery, the launch of Vinaya feels particularly significant,” Bladnoch Distillery Owner David Prior said in a prepared statement. “It is important for us to show gratitude to the previous custodians of this historic brand and estate as we move forward into our most ambitious year yet. Vinaya is a stunning expression of Bladnoch’s style and we’re excited to share it with the world.”

READ THE STORYBladnoch Distillery’s history dates back to 1817, when John and Thomas McClelland were first granted a license to distill whisky on their Bladnoch farm in Scotland’s Lowlands. At its peak, the site had six washbacks and annual production of approximately 230,000 liters of alcohol, which cemented its status as the “Queen of the Lowlands.” Over the last two centuries, it has changed hands several times with Prior acquiring the distillery in 2015, who began extensive refurbishment of the distillery.
After two years of renovations under the direction of former Master Distiller Ian MacMillan, Bladnoch resumed production. In 2018, Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage joined the team and Bladnoch launched its new Visitor Centre, gift shop and Melba Cafe.
Vinaya will be available via the distillery’s website and select retailers in April 2021. Official tasting notes are below.
