Wigle Cherry Flavored Bourbon Whiskey Review

Wigle Cherry Whiskey is a modern interpretation of the historic colonial cordial Cherry Bounce, not just a cherry-flavored whiskey but its own unique spirit. With an intensely sweet cherry profile backed by bourbon character, it's a fascinating addition for collectors and cocktail enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes:

About:
Wigle Cherry is a take on the historic colonial cordial Cherry Bounce. It is not a whiskey flavored with cherry syrup, it is it’s own thing and important to remember that.

This is a modern interpretation of a classic drink that was previously unknown to this reviewer. Wigle Whiskey provides the following description, “Before the nation was fully formed, a cordial known as Cherry Bounce fueled the spirited conversations of our Founding Fathers, a particular favorite of George Washington himself. We honor this enduring tradition by crafting a modern interpretation of that beloved spirit. Our Cherry Whiskey marries the bold character of bourbon with the sweetness of cherry. It’s a taste of history, perfectly balanced for today’s palate.”
Appearance:
Cherry cola
Nose:
Maraschino cherries, cherry ICEE syrup, and wheated bourbon with undried straw.
Palate:
The mouthfeel is syrupy but strangely not in a bad way. The profile is as you might imagine, sugar covered cherries with brown sugar caramel under notes, mellow and very very sweet. There is just a touch of almond and vanilla extract like a cake and spritz of lemon juice.
Finish:
Lingering cherry marmalade on the tongue with thick syrupy mouthfeel. An odd hint of pine, just briefly, right at the very end of the profile. It lasts long on the tongue but highly likely due to the intense cherry profile.
Comments:
This is its own thing and is scored/judged accordingly. As a whiskey, I’d likely stay away. As a Cherry Bounce, it sounds like Wigle nailed what they were going for. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it’s something you do not see every day. It is not for everyone, first and foremost. If you don’t like cherries or cherry covered foods, this is not going to make you happy. However, if you love a cherry cocktail, cola, or a reduction sauce over ice cream, boy have you got something in this!

If you’re a collector of interesting liquor, like I am, this is something to have on the shelf. It is not like many things I’ve had before and critically isn’t trying to be a bourbon finished with cherries. It plays into the cherry profile and the backbone is a whiskey. I think this is a type of drink you keep for those moments to expand a friends palate or make a dynamite cocktail that requires a specific type of liquor.

Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by The Whiskey Wash or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
