Independent Scotch whisky producer Little Brown Dog has released Aberdeenshire Single Malt, its first-ever core expression, on April 28, 2026. The company describes the 12-year-old Highland single malt as its most important release in eight years of business.
Distilled at Glen Garioch Distillery near the company’s headquarters, the whisky was matured in a recipe of 60% first-fill bourbon barrels and 40% Oloroso and PX sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, natural color and non-chill filtered.

Batch One has been produced in hand-numbered runs of around 2,000 bottles. The launch follows the sellout of a 500-bottle pre-production preview, which the company said generated strong demand from whisky drinkers and collectors alike.
Andrew Smith, director and co-founder of Little Brown Dog, said: “This is a huge moment for us and genuinely our most important release in eight years of business. We’ve taken our time because we wanted to create something that truly represents Aberdeenshire and everything we care about as whisky makers.”
Smith added: “It had to be honest, flavor-led and fairly priced — a whisky people would want to open, share and come back to.”
The release was shaped by extensive research with UK retailers, distributors across nine international markets, and more than 200 consumers. Unlike a one-off limited edition, Aberdeenshire Single Malt has been designed as a permanent expression built on quality and flavor while remaining approachable in price.
The launch also introduces a new visual identity for the core range. The design is inspired by the silhouette of Bennachie, the iconic hill visible from the gates of the company’s distillery and bonded warehouse. Personal touches include Peedie —the real little brown dog— hidden within the barley fields on the label.
A QR code on every bottle links consumers to an interactive page detailing the whisky-making process and full cask breakdown, continuing the brand’s commitment to transparency.
Founded in 2018 by Andrew Smith and Chris Reid, Little Brown Dog is an independent bottler and micro distillery based in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The company has earned a following for its single cask whiskies, small-batch releases and innovative spirits.
The release comes as the business enters a new growth phase, having recently welcomed its first employee. Batch Two is already prepared and Batch Three is underway as the company targets retailers, bars and whisky enthusiasts across the UK and international markets.
