Elijah Craig has launched its inaugural Single Barrel 15-Year-Old Bourbon in the UK. The expression joins the brand’s single barrel lineup as a higher-proof offering and lands on UK shores this September.

Bottled at 108 proof, the new whiskey is crafted for those seeking “robust and complex flavours”. The expression is designed to showcase the richness and depth that comes with extended aging in new charred oak barrels.

According to the official notes from the brand, the expression leads with aromas of dark fruit, figs and roses. On the palate, the brand notes flavors of roasted nuts, toasted oak and caramelized sugar that build to a rich finish evoking crème brûlée with ginger and cloves.

How would you describe your whisky knowledge?

“This release reflects the craftsmanship and tradition that has defined Elijah Craig for generations,” said Conor O’Driscoll, master distiller at Heaven Hill Distillery. “We were looking for exceptional depth and character in our first 15-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon, and it delivers at a proof that enhances its natural complexity.”

O’Driscoll added: “The result is a bold yet refined whiskey that is approachable enough to be an all-evening sipper.”

The 54% ABV offers a nod to 4 May 1964, the date the United States Congress officially recognized Bourbon as a distinct product of the United States.

That ruling reinforced the standards that continue to guide the spirit’s production, including a requirement that it be aged in new charred oak barrels.

The pioneering practice is attributed to Elijah Craig, earning him his reputation as the “Father of Bourbon”.

Elijah Craig is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, the largest independent, family-owned producer of American whiskey in the United States. The Bardstown, Kentucky-based company’s portfolio also includes Evan Williams and Larceny Bourbon.

The Elijah Craig 15-Year-Old Bourbon (750ml) is available for pre-order through The Whisky Exchange at £150.

Allocation is strictly limited to just 180 bottles nationwide for the entire year. The launch adds to Elijah Craig’s existing single barrel range, which includes its Small Batch and Barrel Proof expressions.
