Templeton Rye 6 Year Old A Step Forward For Formerly Troubled Brand

Nearly a year can make a big difference for a whiskey brand with a troubled past. Templeton Rye Whiskey, which settled a lawsuit last year about bottle labeling practices by paying out $2.5 million to disgruntled drinkers, is looking beyond this misstep now with the announcement of a six year old variant it is bringing to market in a limited edition fashion.

The new Templeton Rye 6 Year Old, said those behind it, is the first new expression released from this brand in a decade. It is said to be based upon a family recipe, like the standard four year old Templeton Rye, and was aged in new American oak barrels before being bottled at 45.75% ABV.

“When we saw the tremendous growth of the category and our brand, we decided to set aside key barrels for longer aging back in 2010,” said Keith Kerkhoff, co-founder of Templeton Rye, in a statement. “We’re delighted with this first offering, especially in a category where aged expressions are rare.”

Limited official tasting notes for this six year old rye are available below from Templeton Rye. As for pricing and availability, it will be coming to retail this month at a price point of around $50 a bottle.

Floral aromas and hints of dry spice, butterscotch, vanilla, cherry and green apple preview a balanced taste nuanced with vibrant flavor cues of fruit with hints of toasted oak. The body is bold oak with burnt sugar sweetness; the finish long and strong with lingering spiciness.
