Ruddell’s Mill Emerges With A New Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

The Covered Bridges Whiskey Company recently added a Kentucky Straight Rye to its flagship brand, Ruddell’s Mill.

Launched following the company’s release of its Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, the new bottling is derived from a high rye mash bill and a touch of malted barley, according to the brand. It is a mash bill that’s said would’ve been common in the late 1700s. Kentucky Straight Rye is a small batch whiskey, with individually numbered bottles and a batch number on each label, and is non-chill filtered and bottled at 94.4 proof.

The Covered Bridges Whiskey Company pays homage to specific covered bridges with releases of whiskeys telling their stories. The bridges are described as playing an important role in the early days of American infrastructure and were often found adjacent to, or nearby grist mills and distilleries – both which were commonly built along rivers.

One of Kentucky’s first covered bridges, “Ruddles Mill” Covered Bridge, was built at the site of Kentucky Pioneer Isaac Ruddell’s grist mill in 1861 and provided easy access to both sides of Stoner Creek until 1964 when it was destroyed by arson. The mill had processed grains utilized for the production of early day Kentucky whiskey.

The Straight Rye is available in 750ml bottles for a suggested retail price of $49.99 and can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in traditional whiskey cocktails. It is described as a full flavored whiskey with notable spice.
