Shelter Distilling, an artisan distillery based in Mammoth Lakes, California, has announced the opening of a new location in Montrose, Colorado. The distillery is known for distilling a range of spirits including gin, agave, whiskey, and bourbon.
Following the establishment of the Mammoth Lakes location, Shelter Distilling experienced a rapid growth in the popularity of its spirits, warranting the expansion into a new state.
Shelter Distilling has a passion for adventure, and the new location was chosen and built with this passion in mind.
Director of Marketing and Branding, and former professional snowboarder, Matt Hammer commented: “For Shelter Distilling, it is not just about promoting a quality spirit, it is also about promoting a lifestyle. Our people have a very strong seeking spirit and a desire to commune with nature. We want to be in those places too and connect with our people.”
Nestled in the Rockies, the Shelter Distilling Montrose location will host a restaurant, bar, and event space, all whilst being a working distillery. At 10,400 square feet larger than the Mammoth Lakes location, the new distillery is set to produce 15-25 barrels per week, as well as the brand’s canned cocktails.
Those wishing to combine a skiing holiday with a visit to the distillery will have no problem doing so, as the distillery is located just a mile and a half from the airport. Surrounded by mountains and ski resorts, thrill seekers will have several hiking and skiing trails to choose from.
With production ramping up, Shelter Distilling is excited to produce spirits and cocktails to suit all tastes. Master Distiller at the new location, Jason Senior, said: “In our quest for adventure and innovation, we’ve found the perfect location for our expansion—a space that seamlessly blends retail and production into one. Montrose offers unique proximity to both Colorado-grown ingredients and pristine mountain water, both of which are integral in the delicious flavors of our spirits.”
