Virginia Distillery Company recently announced the launch of its Double Cask Reserve, the latest addition to their Courage & Conviction line.
Double Cask Reserve features whiskey that was individually aged for a minimum of five years in first fill bourbon casks and STR European red wine Cuvée casks before being vatted together gradually. This offering has no additives, is non-chill filtered and bottled at 48% ABV. Official tasting notes make mention of “bright citrus, apricot, and butterscotch. With every sip, tart cherry mingles with milk chocolate on the palate and finishes with a soft and lingering ginger spice.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to share with the world the latest addition to our Courage & Conviction line: a vibrant whisky that fits beautifully within our collection,” said Virginia Distillery Company’s CEO Gareth H. Moore, in a prepared statement. “With this release, we feel we’ve set a new standard for American Whisky – a category that is soon to be officially recognized by the TTB.”
In July 2022, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for its intent to establish American Single Malt Whiskey as a protected category within the Standards of Identity of American Whiskey. It has yet to be fully ratified.
Virginia Distillery Company’s Double Cask Reserve retails for $89.99. This American Single Malt, along with the rest of the Courage & Conviction line, is available at retail purveyors and can be ordered online at www.courageandconviction.com.
