High West Campfire Returns, With Purpose

The fire is back, High West’s annual Campfire release that is.

According to a statement from High West, this year’s Campfire release is available on shelves nationwide for a limited time, starting this month.

High West’s Campfire has a suggested retail price of $79.99, and the whiskey is a blend of straight rye whiskey, straight bourbon whiskey and blended malt Scotch whisky, ranging in age from 4-8 years and bottled at 46% ABV.

This year’s Campfire batch is the first to be blended with High West’s own 100% own-make rye. The distiller’s notes show the whiskey to feature aromas of grilled nectarine, smoked butterscotch and chocolate-covered peanuts. It tastes of raspberry compote, hickory-smoked apple fritters and salted caramels. The finish is reminiscent of smoldering coals and brine.

And as part of High West’s “Protect the West” initiative, alongside this release, the whiskey maker is donating $50,000 to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation to continue supporting those who protect the West from fires every day.

“Wildfire season in the West is no longer just a season, it’s year-round,” said Daniel Schear, general manager of High West. “As the true whiskey of the West, High West has only become more committed to protecting our backyard.”

He said that with the annual release of this year’s Campfire and as part of their Protect the West initiative, they’re “supporting the brave few who run toward these fires. The limited expression is rolling out on shelves now, so we hope you’ll join us in not lighting a campfire, but drinking one instead.”
