About:

WhistlePig is known for their incredible whiskey and often unique marketing. Take inspiration from their naming conventions or recent collaboration with Liquid Death. WP is really on the cutting edge of bottling. I would wager none or quite as interesting to the average consumer as the PiggyBank 10 year rye. A golden decanter bottle where you pour from the unconventional end of a pig. It’s loud, it’s glamorous and it’s not just me saying it’s a tad ostentatious. WhistlePig themselves describes this bottling thusly:

“The WhistlePig 10 PiggyBank Rye is a limited edition dazzler to celebrate with the world’s most awarded Rye. This isn’t your average holiday spirit; it’s an opulent, overproof Straight Rye Whiskey that’s spent a decade growing older, bolder, and better with each passing year… And it’s here to flaunt it – by proudly pouring from the rear.

Imagine this: a golden pig, proudly perched on your home bar, dripping with charm, complexity, and a bit of swine swagger. It’s the kind of bottle that stops conversations and starts new ones, the centerpiece of any gathering that appreciates something rare and a little ridiculous.”

Is the juice worth the squeeze, or pig worth the oink? We are going to open this up and take a closer examination into the hype and hysteria following the fourth release of the PiggyBank 10 Year Rye from WhistlePig.
Appearance:
Amber in color with nice oily legs
Nose:
The nose is inviting and so sweet for a 100% rye. I find classic spice notes enveloped in dark sugars, licorice, candied ginger and vanilla. There is some alcohol but it is cloaked in Spring honey.
Palate:
The flavors really come alive here with white pepper and rye spice. The candied sugars are not as present but have been replaced by smoother caramels, cola, and charred oak. The flavors are mature but still bright with just enough edge.
Finish:
Oily mouthfeel with a medium to long hold. It feels smooth across the palate without a sharp aftertaste. It lingers with notes of oak and warm honey. There are moments of baking spices like clove and licorice but overall the notes are well heeled to the profile.
Comments:
I really ‘banked’ on this being more of a gimmick. Who can blame me. WhistlePig already has a 10 year rye for national release and I assumed this would be more-or-less that in a cool bottle. It isn’t, this is a great pour of 100% rye whiskey in a unique bar topper.

What I can say is if you put this on your bar you’re going to pour it for everyone who comes over. It’s fun, it’s different it’s shiny gold. Be ready to run out of this very quickly. Don’t be miserly and hid this from friends, keep it out and show it off. Once you’ve finished refill with something else fun and keep it out. You’ll never tire of pouring whiskey from the ‘unconventional’ side of the pig!
