Tasting Notes

About:

Release #7 in the Cu Bocan Creations Series from Tomatin. A combination of Pineau Rouge and American Virgin Oak casks, this is showcase from the distillery about peat and fun experimentation.
Appearance:
Golden Sherry
Nose:
Young peated spirit, rich caramel and a little touch of bright red fruits. Raspberry and rhubarb in particular. Baked pastries, and pastry cases, sugary shortbread pastry, poached pears, lashings of red wine and a little touch of sweet smokiness
Palate:
Mellow and sweet with some distillery characteristics of sweet lemon and herbal tea coming through. There’s a beeswax quality and then the smoke begins to filter through in a very subtle and pleasant way. This is a peated whisky but it isn’t all about the smoke. The virgin oak casks are present with big wood and spice notes, as well as those sweeter caramel and coconut flavours. A little dash of salt at the end.
Finish:
This is where this whisky really shines. Cola syrup, smoked sea salt, lemongrass, shisha pipe tobacco and a French herby flavour that drives out the finish.
Comments:
So. Much. Fun. Not an expensive product, either, no matter which country you’re shopping in for it. Tomatin have always released interesting, fun whiskies, it’s just nice to see them getting more warranted attention.
