Tasting Notes

About:

Prakaan’s inaugural single malts have been named ‘The Tribuna Series’. Inspired by the wall’s three fortified layers and representing Thai history, provenance and passion that is woven into every step of their creation.

The Prakkan peated malt whisky offers drinkers a slight insight into what peat can do to add another layer of flavour to this liquid.
Appearance:
Golden
Nose:
Sweet American oak and subtle but very present peatiness. It reminds me of the rubber plimsols I had to wear for PE in primary school. With that, there is sweet vanilla, smoke, BBQ’d fruits, a salty/coastal note that reminds me of fishing boats and lots of dried fruits, too.
Palate:
Big sweet fruitiness at the start! Lots of pineapple, banana and caramel. The smoke starts to fade in, but it’s like old bonfire smoke, or the smell of a fire the morning after. It’s fragrant and a little ashy, but still in the air.
Finish:
The finish is more about the smoke and peaty influences. It has a dryness that reminds me of southern Islay distilleries. But there’s enough behind that to make the cask and spirit style shine through. It’s still got lots of BBQ’d, sweet, caramel, fresh fruit notes to it.
Comments:
This reminds me of Caol Ila from a more tropical climate. It has smoke and peat, but it’s more about an oiliness and richness to the spirit that still shines through. This one is probably my favourite of the three releases.
