Tasting Notes

About:

A massive celebration bottle for the distilleries 200th anniversary celebration. Matured initially in ex-bourbon casks, the whisky was then finished in a combination of ex-Oloroso and ex-Manzanilla sherry.
Appearance:
Caramel Gold
Nose:
Furniture polish, moist lemon cake, coconut cream, vanilla, caramel, pear tart, poached pear, crisp white wine and elderflower.
Palate:
More vanilla and sweet tangy lemon zest. white chocolate, golden raisins, sultanas, coconut, vanilla ice cream and slightly bitter nutty notes – nut oils, walnuts and hazelnuts.
Finish:
Juicy and fresh with a nice minty dryness. This is where the Old Pulteney saltiness really starts to work its way into the taste profile, we’ve waited a while for it to appear but it’s here and welcome. Rounds out the finish with some welcome familiarity with a bigger emphasis because of the Manzanilla sherry influences.
Comments:
A very tasty Old Pulteney with lots to really sing about with these additional cask influences. The cost is quite a lot, especially when you look at some other similar styles, as well as independently bottled Old Pulteney that is currently kicking around. However, the taste is there and it takes you on quite an solid, juicy sweet adventure that is finished off with a classic Old Pulteney notes.
