The Muse, a new speakeasy-inspired whiskey bar founded by Jack Ng and Jin Ma, has opened in Everett, Washington, offering guests the opportunity to taste spirits distilled before 1920. Located in the historic Weyerhaeuser building on the Everett waterfront, the venue operates as a coffee shop by day and a bar by night, specializing in rare American, Scotch, and Japanese whiskeys.
The bar’s signature offering is ‘The Time Machine’, a tasting flight of four American whiskeys produced before or during national Prohibition.
The flight includes Blockdale Pennsylvania Rye 1922, Old Crow 1927, Four Aces 1928, and Tip Top Spiritus Frumenti 1931.

READ THE STORYThese spirits, often originally distilled for medicinal purposes, were aged during the federal ban on alcohol and represent an exceptionally rare and sought-after category for collectors.
The opening of The Muse taps into a growing consumer demand for experiential drinking and access to collectible spirits, a trend that has seen the rise of so-called “destination bars” globally. Such venues often attract tourism by offering products and atmospheres that are not easily replicated.
Beyond its American whiskey selection, the bar’s menu features other highly coveted bottlings from around the world.
These include prestige offerings like the Yamazaki 18 100th Anniversary edition, Macallan M Black 2022, and a 1997 Louis XIII Jeroboam Cognac.
Its cocktail program is designed to blend classic recipes with contemporary ingredients. A signature serve, The Dark Walnut, is made with whiskey, pistachio, nocino, agave, and a touch of espresso.
The venue itself is situated inside the century-old Weyerhaeuser building, a local landmark.
Founders Jack Ng, a first-generation Chinese-American entrepreneur, and Jin Ma led the renovation in partnership with the Port of Everett, preserving much of the building’s original 1920s character.
According to the founders, their vision for the project was to create a tribute to Everett’s history while establishing a new benchmark for destination drinking in the Pacific Northwest.
