Mount Vernon Whiskey 20% Off for Virginia Spirits Month

George Washington’s Mount Vernon is celebrating Virginia Spirits Month throughout September with a 20% discount on its whiskey, bourbon and brandy. The Virginia estate is also hosting special whiskey tastings every Saturday of the month at its reconstructed distillery.

The discount applies to spirits produced at Washington’s rebuilt distillery, where products are made using 18th-century methods on wood-fired copper pot stills.

The site stands on the location of Washington’s original operation. By 1799, the distillery was producing nearly 11,000 gallons of whiskey annually, making it one of the largest in America at the time.

“George Washington’s distillery tells a fascinating story about his entrepreneurial spirit and his willingness to innovate,” said Doug Bradburn, Ph.D., president and CEO of George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

He added: “Virginia Spirits Month is a unique opportunity to experience that history in a very tangible way and to see how Mount Vernon is preserving the craftsmanship and traditions that were part of Washington’s life.”

Among the spirits available is Mount Vernon’s newly released George Washington’s 375ml Bourbon Whiskey, a seven-year-old bourbon distilled, aged and hand-bottled to mark America’s 250th anniversary.

According to the brand, the bourbon was inspired by Washington’s decision to turn to corn after a dry season devastated his rye harvest. The official notes from the brand list cedar, molasses and orange oil.

Visitors can also explore the estate’s rye whiskey range. This includes the Washington’s Generals Series Premium Straight Rye Whiskey and the limited-edition Commander-in-Chief whiskey, aged for eight years.

Further options include George Washington’s Rye Whiskey, made to reflect the unaged whiskey of Washington’s era, and a seasonal Apple Brandy.

On Saturdays throughout September, guests can sample the whiskey while touring the Distillery & Gristmill. Tasting tickets include a commemorative Glencairn glass and general admission, with discounts available for members.

The Washington’s Generals Series is a collector’s edition label program created in partnership with White Historical Painting. New labels will be released annually on Washington’s birthday, honoring additional Revolutionary War generals.

Spirits can be purchased at the Shops at Mount Vernon and at the distillery. Online sales are available with shipping to Virginia, Washington, DC, and select military bases.

Mount Vernon is owned and operated by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, the oldest national historic preservation organization in the US.
