Meikle Tòir Debuts First Ever Single Cask Whiskies

The GlenAllachie Distillery has unveiled two limited-edition single cask whiskies from its peated Meikle Tòir range. The two are the first ever single cask bottlings in the Meikle Tòir range.

Meikle Tòir Introduces Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Expressions

The independent Speyside distillery announced the launch on Thursday, July 31st, with a distillery-exclusive Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead from 2018 and an online-exclusive Oloroso Sherry Hogshead from 2019. Both expressions showcase the distillery’s mainland peated spirit matured in sherry casks.

Master Distiller and whisky industry legend, Billy Walker, selected the casks for bottling at natural strength.

The 2018 Pedro Ximénez expression is made up of 355 bottles at 59.9% ABV, while the 2019 Oloroso release offers 357 bottles at 60.5% ABV. Both retail for £75.99.

According to official tasting notes, the Pedro Ximénez cask delivers fig jam, toasted hazelnuts and honeyed spice on the nose. The palate reveals orange zest, grilled honeycomb and almond marzipan.

The Oloroso expression presents soft tobacco, figs and orange aromas, followed by mocha and smoked fruits on the palate.

“When selecting our first Meikle Tòir single casks, I was looking for whiskies that truly captured the bold, smoky character that defines the range, with added depth and complexity from exceptional sherry cask maturation,” Walker said. “These two casks stood out to me straight away. Both are a real reflection of the signature peated style we’ve been evolving at the distillery: full of robust sherry character, yet still true to the sweet and smoky mainland spirit of Meikle Tòir.”

Mainland Peat Defines Meikle Tòir Character

The distillery uses mainland peat from St Fergus rather than traditional Islay peat, creating what the company describes as a sweeter, more oaky smoke profile. Production includes a 160-hour fermentation period, approximately three times the industry standard.

The Pedro Ximénez cask aged for seven years and carries a peat level of 44PPM. The Oloroso matured for six years with 47PPM peat content. Neither whisky undergoes chill filtration, and both retain their natural cask-imparted color.

“We have bottled them at natural strength,” added Walker. “So what you’re tasting is as close as it gets to sampling straight from the cask. No fuss – just great, honest whisky.”

The distillery-exclusive Pedro Ximénez is available only at The GlenAllachie Distillery location. The Oloroso expression can be purchased through the distillery’s online shop.

These releases represent the first single cask bottlings in the Meikle Tòir portfolio. The distillery plans additional single cask releases in international markets. The core Meikle Tòir range has earned recognition in 2025 competitions, including a Master medal for The Sherry One at the Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters.

The GlenAllachie operates as one of Scotland’s few independently owned distilleries. The facility maintains 16 warehouses containing more than 50,000 casks. Since gaining independence in 2017, the distillery has focused on flavor development through extended fermentation and specialized cask management.

Earlier this year, The GlanAllachie 12 Year Old was named World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards.
