The Jack Daniel Distillery has announced the latest addition to its annual series, the Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye. The new Barrel Proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey will be available in limited quantities across the United States beginning this month.
The expression was matured in Barrel House 1, located on Tanyard Hill, one of the oldest barrelhouse sites at the Lynchburg, Tennessee, distillery.
This new whiskey was made from the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley.
It was charcoal filtered before entering new handmade American white oak barrels in November 2015.
The release taps into the continued growth of the American rye whiskey category, which has seen sustained consumer interest in high-proof and single barrel expressions. Jack Daniel’s, which is owned by Brown-Forman, has previously launched sought-after whiskeys in its Special Release series, including expressions from the nearby Coy Hill.
“The Special Release series has been a great way for us to showcase our craft of whiskey making here in Lynchburg,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s master distiller.
“We’re fortunate to have barrel houses at so many unique locations that produce deep, rich, and complex whiskeys,” he continued. “Like Coy Hill was before, Tanyard Hill has been one of the hidden gems for locals familiar with the distillery grounds.”
Fletcher added: “We’re now bringing more people into this secret and can’t wait to see what our friends think of this special Tennessee Rye Whiskey.”
Tanyard Hill Rye is offered at barrel proof, with its ABV ranging from 65.10% to 74.40% (130.2 – 148.8 proof).
According to official notes from the brand, the whiskey has an aroma of dark fruit and sweet oak. The palate offers flavors of candied mint and dark chocolate with layers of baking spice, leading to a finish of clove, sweet tobacco, and a long-lasting oak balance.
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye is bottled at 700ml and has a suggested retail price of $79.99.
