Gold Bar Whiskey has partnered with NFL legend Joe Montana to launch its first canned cocktail, marking 40 years since the San Francisco 49ers’ golden era of the 1980s.
Joe Montana Partners with Gold Bar Whiskey on Premium Canned Whiskey Mule
The Double Gold ready-to-drink cocktail combines Gold Bar Whiskey with ginger, lime, and orange juice, creating an 8% ABV whiskey mule. Each 12-ounce can includes a QR code that unlocks a vintage Joe Montana t-shirt when scanned. Fans can collect their shirts at the Gold Bar Distillery on Treasure Island.
The canned cocktail arrives alongside a special Retro Edition 85-proof straight bourbon finished in wine casks. This limited release celebrates the 40th anniversary of the 49ers’ 1985 championship. Each bottle features a detachable “Necker Koozie” drink sleeve designed to keep Double Gold cans cold.
The koozie design takes inspiration from gold satin jackets worn by Montana and the 49ers during the 1980s. Gold Bar Whiskey aims to capture the nostalgia of Bay Area sports history through both products’ packaging.
“The craftsmanship poured into Double Gold and Retro Edition exemplifies the dedication and passion from the Gold Bar Whiskey team,” said Montana. “I look forward to seeing fellow whiskey enthusiasts and football fans enjoy these products as much as I do.”
Double Gold RTD Launches Across Northern California and Online
The Double Gold canned cocktail is now available at retailers throughout Northern California. Nationwide shipping is offered through www.goldbarwhiskey.com. The Retro Edition bourbon will launch in stores and online this September.
Official tasting notes describe the whiskey mule as smooth with a strong kick. The combination of ginger and lime provides classic mule flavors, while the orange juice adds a citrus twist to the traditional recipe.
Gold Bar Whiskey serves as the Official Whiskey of the San Francisco 49ers. The brand operates a distillery and tasting room on Treasure Island six days per week. The facility offers cocktail classes, tastings, and events. A second location will open soon in Alameda.
The dual product launch represents a significant expansion for Gold Bar Whiskey. The brand combines its whiskey expertise with Montana’s sports legacy ahead of San Francisco hosting the Big Game in 2026.
The partnership brings together two Bay Area icons. Montana led the 49ers to four Super Bowl victories during the 1980s and 1990s.
