Glen Scotia Unveils 12 Year Old Single Malt, Celebrating Campbeltown's Rich Character

Glen Scotia, a renowned distillery from Scotland’s smallest whisky-making region, Campbeltown, has launched its latest core range addition, the Glen Scotia 12 Year Old single malt.

This new whisky highlights the distillery’s signature maritime and coastal notes, which have been a defining characteristic of their offerings. Known for its resilience and heritage, Glen Scotia aims to place its bold Campbeltown character at the forefront with this latest release.

Campbeltown, once celebrated as the Victorian whisky capital of the world, has experienced a resurgence in recent years. Glen Scotia has been a persistent force in this revival, contributing significantly to the region’s whisky-making renaissance.

The introduction of the Glen Scotia 12 Year Old, matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks, marks a new chapter in the distillery’s journey. The casks impart a vibrant depth and richness, capturing the essence of Glen Scotia’s meticulously crafted single malts.

Glen Scotia 12 Year Old: A Bold New Expression

The Glen Scotia 12 Year Old showcases the distillery’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship. Iain McAlister, Master Distiller and Distillery Manager, shared, “The Glen Scotia 12 Year Old is a bold new classic that will become the heart of our core range, representing our signature style and offering whisky lovers a true taste of Campbeltown.” This expression joins Glen Scotia’s esteemed lineup, sitting alongside the 10, 15, 18, and 25-year-old whiskies.

According to the official tasting notes, the Glen Scotia 12 Year Old opens with a nose of fresh sea air, honeyed vanilla, and hints of exotic tropical fruit. The palate unfolds with layers of caramelized sugar, tangy citrus, and vibrant pineapple, all balanced by subtle toasted oak. The whisky concludes with a long, warming finish featuring gentle notes of cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg spice.

The 12 Year Old is bottled at 46% ABV, retaining its natural color and avoiding chill filtration.

A New Look for Glen Scotia’s Heritage

The Glen Scotia 12 Year Old also reflects the distillery through its packaging, explained McAlister.

“The new 12-year-old is quintessentially GlenScotia – from the royal blue and chalk white packaging referencing our dunnage door and exterior wall, to the bold Campbeltown character within, bursting with tropical fruit flavours that are perfectly balanced with our maritime influence.”

Available exclusively through the distillery’s website and The Whisky Shop, the Glen Scotia 12 Year Old is priced at £45. This new release aims to bring Glen Scotia’s unique Campbeltown flavors to a broader audience, offering whisky enthusiasts a distinctive taste of the region.

For those interested in experiencing this new expression, further details can be found on Glen Scotia’s official website. As Glen Scotia continues to expand its offerings, the introduction of the Glen Scotia 12 Year Old marks a significant milestone in its storied history.
