Crown Royal is a beloved Canadian whisky. Nestled in that iconic purple bag, the Signature Series always has prime space on the bar shelf. Whether poured over a few cubes or mixed into a cocktail, the classic spirit has been a favorite with many whisky drinkers. Recently, the company has focused on its Flavor Series. With a recent event in Chicago, guests were stacking up many reasons to enjoy another Crown Royal Blackberry.
Crown Royal crosses demographics and has a wide audience appeal. Previously, as the Official Whisky Sponsor of the NFL, it balanced creative team-inspired cocktails while encouraging people to take water breaks during the game. Instead of pounding another light lager, the smooth, versatile liquor proved that thoughtful sipping won game time.

With its Flavor Series, the brand has begun to target a different audience. When Crown Royal launched its Apple and Peach flavors, people cleared the shelf of the fruit-forward spirits. From the person who sipped it in a shot to the one who created a juicy cocktail, these offerings were not your grandfather’s spirit.
Crown Royal Opens the Pancake Palace to Fans’ Delight
Recently, Crown Royal held a special event in Chicago. After the popular Lollapalooza festival ended, music lovers kept the party going at the Pancake Palace. The pop-up event was part diner and part intimate concert.
Before Tanner Adell performed for her fans, guests sipped on cocktails featuring Crown Royal Blackberry as well as other flavored whiskies. Additionally, the event paired stacked pancakes with those signature spirits.
Having attended the special event, the activation showcased a shift in whiskey drinkers. The crowd was young, energetic, and engaged. These cocktails and vibe are definitely not the spirits drunk in darkened libraries by men discussing the economic complexities of tariffs on the spirits world.
After the event, Hadley Schafer, Vice President of Crown Royal, graciously offered insight on the importance of these types of activations. Schafer explained, “Events like the Crown Royal Pancake Palace give us an opportunity to show up in fun, unexpected ways in culture. More specifically, showing up in Chicago during festival season gave us a timely way to connect directly with our fans face-to-face. It was a great way to spotlight the versatility of our flavors, namely Crown Royal Blackberry, which has been a runaway hit since its launch last year.”
Creating Relevant, Engaging Activations is Key for Crown Royal
While it was clear that the Pancake Palace event was successful, it was more than just a pop-up. The concept created a lasting relationship between the brand and its target audience.
When asked if these types of activations bring in a new audience, Schafer said, “Absolutely – and that’s by design. When we launched Crown Royal Blackberry, we wanted to partner with someone who truly embodied the spirit of the flavor: bold and unapologetically themselves. Jackie Aina was a natural fit. She’s a powerhouse in the lifestyle space, and her brand FORVR Mood had a 45,000-person waitlist before launch, so we knew we were tapping into a real, engaged audience. Her love for the flavor inspired the limited-edition Berry On Top candle, and the Blackberry Stand consumer experience felt fresh and aligned with where we see the brand going.”
“With the Crown Royal Pancake Palace, we’re keeping that momentum going – this time leaning more into culture through talent like reality star Miguel Harichi and country artist Tanner Adell. Both bring their own loyal followings and unique POVs, helping us create a vibe that embodies the brand. For us, it’s not just about putting on a big event – it’s about finding the right partners and creating moments that feel personal, relevant in culture and shareable.”
Crown Royal Embraces its Flavored Whisky Portfolio
While these special events and partnerships resonate with a specific crowd, they align with Crown Royal’s flavored whisky portfolio. This line seems to expand the brand’s audience.
When asked about the importance of flavored whisky to Crown Royal’s lineup and its growth, Schafer shared, “Flavored whiskys are a major driver of growth for us. We experienced a 3.8% net sales growth that was largely driven by continued strong consumer demand for Crown Royal Blackberry. When it comes to recruitment, flavors are often the entry point and allow us to introduce our offerings to more drinkers and fans. Looking ahead, we’ll continue searching for ways to raise the bar when it comes to innovation and prioritizing new ways for fans to enjoy with Crown Royal.”
Could another fruit infuse its juicy flavor into the classic Crown Royal? Given the success of the current offerings and fans appreciation for them, it seems likely. More importantly, the brand will more than likely use creative activations to engage fans with the latest release.
