According to official tasting notes, the whisky features smoke and dark chocolate notes, complemented by walnut brittle and fresh sourdough bread. Sweet layers of red berry, bright citrus creaminess, and lingering hints of pine resin complete the flavor profile.
The distillery, which has operated continuously since 1779, positions this release as a response to evolving consumer preferences in the travel retail sector. The whisky maintains Bowmore’s signature Islay character while incorporating the popular sherry cask influence that has gained traction among whisky enthusiasts.
“With today’s travelling consumer searching for elevated innovations, paired with strong legacy, this exclusive expression is perfect for travel retail,” says Gareth Jones, Suntory Global Spirits General Manager, GTR Europe and Americas. “It pays homage to Islay’s distinctive and layered terroir, from its dramatic coastline to peat-rich moors and heather-clad hillside, offering a taste of the unique Bowmore spirit in every drop.”
Strategic Positioning of Bowmore 11 Year Old in Premium Portfolio
Kirsteen Beeston, Global Marketing Director at Bowmore, identifies the new expression as filling a specific gap in the distillery’s offerings: “We expect Bowmore 11-Year-Old to quickly attract the attention of both travel retailers and consumers. There is growthglobally in luxury spirit brands and this new expression successfully bridges the Scotch portfolio gap between the non-age statement and single malt category entry point.”
The launch follows Bowmore’s recent introduction of the Appellations collection, a series of wine-finished single malts also exclusive to travel retail. The distillery has supported these releases with consumer experiences at major international airports, including London Heathrow and Singapore Changi.
The Bowmore 11-Year-Old will be available exclusively in global travel retail locations starting October 2025, priced at $55 (RRSP). The whisky is bottled at 40% ABV, maintaining accessibility for travelers who may be new to Islay whiskies while offering enough complexity for experienced drinkers.
This release reinforces Bowmore’s commitment to the travel retail channel and reflects broader industry trends toward exclusive offerings for international travelers. As competition intensifies in airport retail spaces, distilleries increasingly develop unique expressions to capture consumer attention and justify premium pricing in duty-free environments.
