Scotland’s oldest privately-owned whisky distillery releases the second limited-edition bottle in its five-part Master Distiller’s Collection series.
Bladnoch The Wave Showcases Lowland Character
Bladnoch Distillery has launched Wave II: Distillery & Spirit, the second release in The Wave Master Distiller’s Collection. The new single malt highlights the distillery’s signature Lowland style through a careful marrying process overseen by master distiller Dr. Nick Savage.
The Wave collection is a five-part limited series that demonstrates the whisky-making pillars used at the 208-year-old distillery. Each annual release reveals different aspects of Bladnoch’s production methods while maintaining a common thread throughout the series.
Wave II focuses on the distillery’s fruit-forward spirit character. The whisky was created by marrying re-charred butts and barrels with first-fill ex-bourbon barrels in an Amontillado sherry tun. This process emphasizes the fruity and floral notes that define Bladnoch’s Lowland style.
“All Bladnoch whiskies start their life with the same exceptional Lowland spirit from our stills, which gives us the common thread throughout our single malts,” said Dr. Nick Savage, Master Distiller at Bladnoch Distillery. “Bladnoch is known as ‘Queen of the Lowlands’ and ensuring we distil a truly consistent Lowland style, encompassing fruity pear drops and floral, freshly cut grass, is the essential starting point for our whiskies.”
Bladnoch The Wave Tasting Notes & Pricing
The new release contains 57% ABV and is non-chill filtered with natural color. Official tasting notes describe aromas of pear drops and summer barley on the nose. The palate features baked pineapples with ginger snaps, while the finish is floral and fresh with spiced notes.
Limited to 1,817 bottles in honor of the distillery’s founding year, Wave II carries a retail price of £125. The whisky is available exclusively at Bladnoch Distillery and through bladnoch.com with shipping to over 30 countries.
Wave II follows the June 2024 release of Wave I: Time & Maturation, which focused on selecting casks at peak maturation. The innovative series uses five Amontillado sherry tuns filled with various whisky combinations. Each year’s remaining whisky is decanted into the following year’s tun, creating the “wave effect” that gives the collection its name.

Wave Day
Bladnoch celebrated the launch with Wave Day on June 14, 2025, hosting whisky enthusiasts at the distillery for the first opportunity to sample and purchase the new release.
The Galloway-based distillery has undergone significant revival since Australian businessman David Prior purchased it in 2015. Prior became the first Australian to own a Scotch whisky distillery, bringing new investment to the historic producer while maintaining its traditional Lowland whisky-making methods.
