Auchentoshan Sherry Cask Finish: New Permanent Expression

Auchentoshan has added a new permanent expression to its range with the release of Auchentoshan Sherry Cask Finish, a non-age statement single malt targeting growing demand for affordable whisky in Europe and Asia. The Lowland distillery, owned by Suntory Global Spirits, will roll out the bottling in France from April 2026, followed by Taiwan and Germany throughout the year.

The expression has been fully aged in ex-bourbon barrels before receiving a finish in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 40% ABV.

Auchentoshan remains the only major Scottish distillery to triple distill every drop of its spirit, a process the brand says is central to its signature smoothness.

Dr. Calum Fraser, master blender, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, said: “Auchentoshan Sherry Cask Finish perfectly showcases the distillery’s unmistakably smooth and fruity profile, with the triple distillation process allowing the spirit to take on the incredible flavors from the casks.”

He added: “It’s a beautifully balanced and enjoyable dram.”

Official tasting notes from the brand describe a deep fruity flavor with rich notes of dark stone fruits and caramel.

Kirsteen Beeston, senior global marketing director, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, said: “There is a demand for high-quality yet affordable expressions that can be enjoyed on any sociable occasion.”

Beeston continued: “Auchentoshan Sherry Cask Finish offers exactly that, with a rich and inviting experience for those new to whisky, and flavor complexity for more seasoned fans.”

She added: “This expression demonstrates a single malt doesn’t have to be high age and high price to be enjoyable.”

The release aligns with broader industry trends.

The Scotch Whisky Association reported that single malt scotch exports reached record levels in recent years, with growing interest from Asian and European markets in accessible, flavor-forward expressions. Non-age statement bottlings have become an increasingly important category for scotch producers seeking to attract new consumers while managing maturing stock.

Auchentoshan, based in Clydebank on the outskirts of Glasgow, has been distilling since 1823. Suntory Global Spirits acquired the brand as part of its purchase of Beam Inc. in 2014.

The Sherry Cask Finish joins existing expressions in the Auchentoshan permanent lineup. Pricing has not yet been confirmed for all markets.
