Tasting Notes

About:

Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake is the fifth release in the “A Tale Of” series. It is made up of whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks that have been finished in so called high-vanillin casks. These are new oak casks which have been toasted in a way to bring out the vanilla qualities of the wood.
Appearance:
An old gold hue which is almost amber.
Nose:
The nose holds malty tones of barley surrounded by honey and vanilla fudge. A petrichor character accompanied by dry wood makes the dram feel quite earthy but there is also a distinct note of custard pastries.
Palate:
The palate is greeted by sweetness on the first sip, which lingers through to the finish as well. The note of custard pastries continues and evolves into green fruit candies, heather honey and a touch of clove spice. The crisp sweetness is almost reminiscent of a grain whisky. There is a fairly heavy texture to the spirit and the viscosity balances well against the sweetness.
Finish:
The finish is slightly longer than expected as the sweetness clings to the palate and invites for another sip.
Comments:
Certainly a whisky for those with a sweet-tooth but for a single malt with the name “A Tale Of Ice Cream”, would you expect anything else? I was pleasantly surprised and think this is one of the more interesting whiskies (flavour wise) in the series.
