Tasting Notes

About:

Independent bottler Claxton’s Dalswinton Series includes this exceptionally well-aged 33-year-old single malt from the Bunnahabhain distillery. Distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2024, this whisky has spent over three decades maturing in an Oloroso sherry cask, resulting in a deep and complex flavour profile. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 48.6% ABV, without chill filtration or added colour.
Appearance:
Medium copper, like gentle loose-leaf tea. Thick and viscous in the glass with slow-developing tears and pronounced legs.
Nose:
Elegant sherried fruits with red berries, red plum and ripe figs. A nutty character with walnuts and hazelnuts. Leather and oak, perhaps a touch of an earthy character. Wood spice with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
Palate:
Full mouthfeel with a wonderful, rich texture. More pronounced sherried fruits, with more red berries, dark plum, and sticky fig. Loose tobacco in a leather pouch. Alcohol is well integrated adding to the mouthfeel.
Finish:
Long finish. Dark fruit and nut chocolate with plenty of hazelnut and walnut. Warming spice with cloves and black pepper.
Comments:
A rich, elegant, and luxurious Bunnahabhain. The high quality oloroso cask has left its character on the whisky, without overpowering the nature of the malt itself. Delicious.
