About:
100 proof (50% ABV), aged at least 5 years, 750 ml bottle MSRP $73.
Appearance:
Burnished copper.
Nose:
On the nose are woody notes of black pepper, vanilla bean, stone fruit, and toasted cereal.

The palate offers spicy butterscotch, vanilla pudding, baked orchard fruit, with subtle green bell pepper notes, and the slightest hint of toasted marshmallow with a touch of finely-ground black pepper.
Finish:
Comments:
Quite simply, this is a good straight whiskey. It has an initially smooth texture that gently evolves into a slightly chewy mouthfeel followed by a long spicy finish. While it doesn’t have a highly complex flavor profile, it’s a great example of ‘less is more,’ especially since the flavors captured within are very well-balanced. Despite the high proof, this expression easily offers an approachable and satisfying American straight whiskey drinking experience.

In November of 2022, Wyoming Whiskey released Wyoming Outryder American Straight Whiskey, representing the brand’s 2022 annual Outryder release. This limited edition is the sixth expression of the Outryder American Straight Whiskey from the Kirby, Wyoming based distillery.

Wyoming Whiskey is an independent, family-owned distillery known for specializing in the production of small batches of wheated bourbons. Founded in 2006 by Brad and Kate Mead and David DeFazio, who hired the now 50-year distilling veteran, former Master Distiller of Maker’s Mark Distillery, and Bourbon Hall of Famer Steve Nally, Wyoming Whiskey was established in the Bighorn Basin where they’ve been using locally sourced strains of non-GMO grains for the production of their whiskey since day one. The water source for their whiskey comes from the Madison Formation, which is a limestone-rich aquifer that lies a mile below nearby Manderson, WY. Wyoming Whiskey also has the distinction of being known as the home of Wyoming’s first premium whiskey

The very first edition of the Outryder expression, also reviewed by The Whiskey Wash, was released in October of 2016 marking the brand’s first combined use of rye, corn, and malted barley. The Outryder 2022 version incorporates a blend of two high-rye mash bills, neither of which qualify as a true rye due to each being just short of the required 51% rye component.

Bottled at 100 proof, Wyoming Outryder American Straight Whiskey is a blend of two whiskeys, one of which is a high-rye bourbon while the other is a whiskey with a mash bill of 48% rye, 40% corn, and 12% malted barley, and is aged for at least 5 years in charred oak barrels.

This past Fall, in addition to the 2022 Outryder expression, Wyoming Whiskey also released two other limited release whiskeys, which included the Barrel Strength Bourbon and the Single Barrel Bourbon. “Fall is certainly the best time of year to be a fan of Wyoming Whiskey,” said Wyoming Whiskey Co-Founder David DeFazio in a prepared statement. “Our barrel selections have been made and our batching season is complete with the largest production run of Outryder ever offered. This season’s Outryder, identified by its black foil logo, is easily my favorite edition of all time.”
