Dublin, as the capital and largest city of the great whiskey loving nation of Ireland, should have many distilleries operating making the favored brown spirit of that island land, you would think. Not so, it seems, at least for almost the last four decades. That has changed just today, however, with word that Teeling Whiskey Company just put to barrel its first whiskey spirit produced at its new distillery in the city.
Teeling, operating out of its new distillery in Dublin’s Newmarket area of The Liberties, is said to be the first new operation of its kind there in 125 years. It thus far has been a €10 million ($10.81 million USD) investment for the whiskey producer, and marks the return of the Teeling whiskey tradition to Dublin, where Walter Teeling once “had a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in the 18th century.”
