Crown Royal Renames Bourbon Mash To Blenders’ Mash

Crown Royal Blenders' Mash is the new Canadian whisky replacing Bourbon Mash, taking the name over from a product which ran afoul of TTB labeling issues.

Crown Royal not too long ago released a Canadian blended whisky it called Bourbon Mash which, as the name implies, is a spirit made from a bourbon style mash. It ran into issue here in the US, despite initially being TTB approved, in part because of its labeling with the use of the word bourbon. Ultimately parent company Diageo is being allowed to keep the product for up to a year with the same name and label. It is not waiting that long to take action, however, and has already renamed the expression to Crown Royal Blenders’ Mash.

Crown Royal Blenders’ Mash, according to those behind it, is the first expression in a new line up known as the Blenders’ Series. Highlighting one of the five whiskies that make up the Crown Royal Deluxe blend, it is an amber colored offering pricing around $28 that’s being made available starting now. How it will be placed on retail shelves alongside the existing Bourbon Mash is anybody’s guess.

Nose: Crown Royal Blenders’ Mash begins with aromas of ripe apple and buttery toffee.

Taste: Crown Royal Blenders’ Mash opens with a creamy vanilla flavor followed by hints of dried orchard fruit, allspice, toasted oak and finishes with a touch of sweet caramel and smoothness that is still unmistakably Crown Royal.
