Tasting Notes

About:

Straight bourbon whiskey from Washington, 45% ABV, 90 proof, mashbill of corn, rye and malted barley, new charred oak barrels, $39.95 for a 750mL. Straight bourbon whiskey from Washington, Bottled in Bond, 50% ABV, 100 proof, mashbill of corn, rye and malted barley, new charred oak barrels, limited to tasting room purchases for $59.95 for a 750mL.
Appearance:
Straw, with faded green tinges. Golden straw.
Nose:
Grains, hay, nice sour lactic notes, and cashew. Touch of lemon and puff pastry. Wood shavings, caramel and vanilla. Not overly aromatic, especially compared to the 90 proof bourbon.
Palate:
Nice and light, gently sweet and very quaffable. Still, it is balanced with richer notes of honey, custard, nutmeg and baked apple. It finishes sweet and chewy. While I don’t find anything incredibly exciting about this expression, it’s beautifully done bourbon and one that deserves the awards it’s won. Score: 3.5/5 Tasting Notes: Woodinville Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled in Bond Vital Stats: Straight bourbon whiskey from Washington, Bottled in Bond, 50% ABV, 100 proof, mashbill of corn, rye and malted barley, new charred oak barrels, limited to tasting room purchases for $59.95 for a 750mL. Appearance: Golden straw. Nose: Wood shavings, caramel and vanilla. Not overly aromatic, especially compared to the 90 proof bourbon. Palate: Chewy, with white raisins and Bartlett pears. Orange blossom, white chocolate, caramel taffy, and again a bit of sour dairy, which I really enjoy. Score: 4/5
