Tasting Notes

About:

Non-age statement bourbon (thought to be 7-9 years on average) that’s distilled from an undisclosed by percentage mash bill (corn, rye, malt) and aged in new American oak. Bottled at 45% ABV.

Appearance:
What’s in the Glencairn is a very classic aged bourbon coloring, reflecting well-defined golden-amber hues showcasing great leg structure and nice viscosity.
Nose:
The high rye nature of Buffalo Trace is noticeable in the aromatics, but not in a very aggressive spicy manner, making this quite approachable for most entry-level drinkers. Rich vanilla appears at the onset, striding alongside that oak character common to bourbon. Coriander represents the spice side, presenting itself as gingerbread considerations drift alongside it.
Palate:
It is an easy drinker on the palate, keeping things nice and safe on the taste side to appeal to as wide of an enjoyment pool as possible. It comes in with a gentle vanilla opening, playing nice with a hint of black pepper and defined oakiness. Further exploration gives gentle hints of custard, a dash of apricot, a bite of rye bread, and, towards the end, more vanilla.
Finish:
It is an easy finisher, just making for a soft and straightforward tingle of the back throat before fading into a moderate good night.
Comments:

Buffalo Trace Bourbon has always been an easy-drinking American whiskey, good for gentle sipping or a range of cocktails. It isn’t complex, but it doesn’t aim for that either. It wants to be an entry-level bourbon, and in that, it succeeds well.
