English Whisky Co. Founders Private Cellar Debuts New Bottling

English Whisky Co.The English Whisky Co. Founders Private Cellar is a series of limited whiskies crafted by one of the U.K.’s best non-Scottish distilleries. We’ve written about this line before, including Private Cellar Final Signature release, and now the latest release from this line up looks to continue the trend of unique, one-off expressions.

The English Whisky Co. Founders Private Cellar, Cask 365, is a 59.7% ABV English whisky bottling which was initially distilled and put into an ex-bourbon cask in December, 2010. It spent roughly half of its life in this barrel before being transferred some three years later to a virgin oak cask to finish out its aging process.

“These rare and unusual casks are highly sought after by collectors and drinkers alike as the number of bottles that can be filled from a cask is extremely limited,” said Andrew Nelstrop, Managing Director of the English Whisky Co., in a statement. “In this case we will only fill 285 bottles in total.”

“It is a privilege to have these casks in our private collection and whilst it is my job to ensure the collection is in good order for the next generation, I am always proud when a cask is deemed ideal for bottling and can therefore be shared with the wider whisky community.”

English Whisky Co. is pricing these bottles at £175, or about $255 USD. Official tasting notes are below.

Nose: Freshly baked treacle tart and milk chocolate digestive biscuits. Vanilla, stewed pears and bananas. Woody with hints of honeysuckle, soft leather and liquorice.

Taste: Milk chocolate and vanilla. A hint of golden syrup. Very fruity with an almost herbal note of fresh sage. A lovely long, dry and spicy finish.
