Bardstown Bourbon’s Latest Whiskey Sports Foursquare Rum Cask Finish

Bardstown Bourbon Company is set to release its latest in the Collaborative Series, a blend of straight rye and bourbon finished in Foursquare Barbados Rum barrels.

A statement from the distiller noted that this custom blend of 7-year-old rye and 17-year-old bourbon was designed to accentuate the Barbados flavor, as it was aged for 23 months in Foursquare Rum barrels on the top floor of Bardstown’s Rickhouse G.

The distiller’s notes explained that this created a lower liquid volume due to increased evaporation, but ultimately yielded a concentrated expression ripe with that Barbados flavor.

On the nose, the distiller’s notes show aromas of plantain, toasted almond, and clove meld with coconut, peanut, orange zest, and raisin. The palate balances rye spice with aged oak, leading to a complex finish of baked fruit, lingering spice, and caramel sweetness.

Foursquare Rum Distillery is located on a former sugar farm that goes back to 1720 on the Caribbean island of Barbados. The distillery was re-opened by the Seale family in 1996, with distilling operations and blending directed by Richard Seale, fourth-generation trader and distiller of R.L. Seale & Co.

“Foursquare Rum and Bardstown Bourbon Company are trailblazers of transparency in spirits,” said Dan Callaway, vice president for Bardstown Bourbon Co. “This collaboration celebrates our shared value of connecting people with our authentic process, liquid content, and provenance. It is a dream come true to bring this project to life.”

The Foursquare Rum Collaborative Series release clocks in at 107 proof, 53.5% ABV. It has a suggested retail price of $159.99. It’s available through the Bardstown Bourbon Co. gift shop, and at retailers in 24 states as well as online at Seelbachs.com.
