Douglas Laing Offers ‘The Heart’ New Make Spirit From Strathearn Distillery

Douglas Laing recently announced a new single malt spirit, Strathearn’s “The Heart” New Make Spirit.

A statement from the house of Scotch noted that this nčw make spirit is bottled at a whopping 63.5% ABV. The “white whisky” is presented in a 20cl bottle and looks to invite a new audience to sip and speculate about the single malt whisky to come from the Strathearn Distillery in the future.

The family firm of Douglas Laing, having acquired Perthshire Strathearn Distillery in 2019, noted that they’ve invested in improving the facilities there while keeping the hand-crafted, small batch approach to distillation.

The name of Strathearn’s new make spirit, “The Heart,” comes from the middle cut in the distillation process, the spirit that’s collected and will later become Strathearn’s Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

The distillers with Douglas Laing describe the Strathearn New Make as creamy with a mineral style and a hint of citrus.

Angela Brown, Strathearn’s head distiller, said, “Strathearn spirit is the product of a truly traditional art. From carrying the malt in, shoveling the spent grain out, careful steam control for a gentle and effective distillation – our involvement during the entire process is key.”

She said they nose and taste throughout every spirit distillation, paying close attention as they make their cut points. “I’m proud to be working towards something as special as the Strathearn Single Malt. Our new make spirit is a wonderful preview of the whisky we will enjoy in the future.”

Managing Director Chris Leggat said the white whisky is “remarkably robust and rich. Ninety percent of the casks we use, predominantly wine and sherry casks, are first fill. The combination of a phenomenal new make and unwavering commitment to the best wood will result in our small distillery producing one mighty single malt.”
