St Andrews Distiller Eden Mill Releases Second Single Malt

St. Andrew’s Day, November 30, which celebrated Scotland’s patron saint, was a fitting day for the release of a new single malt from Eden Mill in St Andrews, Scotland.

The new expression was distilled from a combination of golden promise and propino barley, and aged in a variety of barrels: four oloroso sherry hogsheads, four ex-bourbon barrels, and several Pedro Ximenez casks. The 2018 Eden Mill Single Malt is just the second whisky bottling from the young distillery, following their initial single malt release earlier this year.

The tasting notes from the distillery are as follows:

“Eden Mill’s 2018 Single Malt delivers light aromas of vanilla, candied barley-sugar sweetness with a hint of hazelnut. On the palate, sweet and juicy notes of peach and plum emerge. The expressions Sherry influence is most noticeable, with a light, fruitcake character along with sweet, oaky-vanilla. Customers can expect a light whisky, with a candied sweetness that brings delicate spice and hints of dried plum or raisin.”

The distillery marked the release with a delivery via a convoy of Rolls Royce Phantoms to two hotels in St Andrews, better known for being the birthplace of golf. It comes in a crisp white box, a nice presentation for holiday gift purposes.

Eden Mill is the first distillery in St Andrews in over 160 years. It’s originally a brewery that only recently branched out into spirits, first selling gin, then releasing their first whiskies earlier this year—a line of small bottlings called the Hip Flask Series, as well as a highly limited single malt bottling.

The 2018 Single Malt is a limited release, with just 3,200 bottles produced, available on UK shelves or from the Eden Mill website at £79.
