New British Spiced Malt Offering Goes After Young Adventurers

A relatively new “spiced malt” targeting a newer generation of whisky drinkers surfaced recently in the United Kingdom. Distilled by a small batch operation in England, the Albion Racing Club British Spiced Malt aims to celebrate and unite those who have interest in the “British spirit of adventure.”

This new malt offering, reported Spirits Business, was crafted at an “independent distillery” in England that, according to Diffords Guide, turns out to be English Spirits Company in the tiny village of Dullingham in Cambridgeshire. They in turn produced it for a new spirits brand founded by three drinks industry professionals. Said to be five times distilled “for ridiculous smoothness”  and then infused in an interesting spices mix of Colombian coffee beans, freshly split Indian vanilla pods and organic raisins, the bottles are wax sealed, numbered and signed.

Pricing close to $50 for a 50 cl or $70 for a 70 cl bottle, the 42% ABV offering is made from all English grain that’s entirely malted barley. It has undergone what’s said to be no oak aging, so in some ways it qualifies as unaged whisky. There’s not a lot in the way of official tasting notes on this one, with Albion Racing Club saying only it is “beautifully smooth, rounded and with a hint of sweetness.”
