Benromach Rolls Out Another 41-Year-Old Scotch Single Malt

The Benromach distillery has been in the habit of late of debuting single cask vintage releases from its Heritage series. It has met success in the marketplace with these, having its vintages from 1972, 1973 and, most recently, 1974 sell out rather quickly. Now it is presenting for your consideration another vintage – 1975 – as a 41-year-old offering.

The new Benromach 1975, according to the distillery, was bottled at 49.9% ABV after resting 41 years in cask number 3434, a refill American hogshead. Only 162 bottles are being made available globally from this expression, with its contents having been first distilled before the Urquhart family, the current owners of the distillery, took the reins and brought it back to life.

As with other whiskies in this lineup, the bespoke, decanter-style bottle holding the 41-year-old is presented in a special wooden box. It is accompanied by a hardback book which talks about the distillery’s history, including telling stories about some of the craftsmen from Benromach who have tended to the spirit.

“Our exclusive Heritage single malts celebrate different aspects of Benromach’s history and traditions,” said Benromach sales director David King in a prepared statement. “After 41 years in a carefully selected refill American Hogshead, the character is both unpredictable and intriguing.  I’m confident that whisky fans will be eager to savour this precious single malt that comes steeped in Benromach’s history.”

Plans call for Benromach 1975 to price at £1,250, or close to $1,600 USD, as it becomes available globally. Official tasting notes for it are below from Benromach.

Nose: honeycomb, toasted malt and luscious apricot infused with notes of warm ginger and fresh citrus. Underlying all these is a delicate hint of sugared almond.

Taste: hints of white pepper, dried tobacco and dark cocoa. These evolve into a medley of mature oak flavours, leading to a rich, smooth smoky finish.
