Black Box Wines Strolls Into Boxed (You Read That Right) Whiskey

In the world of easy to carry with you and consume wines, Black Box Wines has made quite a name for itself with its rather innovative boxed wine products. Those behind this believe the spirits category is ripe for such packaging as well, and recently have introduced a range of boxed spirits that includes an aged whiskey.

Black Box Premium Spirits Whiskey, according to those behind it, is described as a six year old blended whiskey that was matured in American oak. Though the origins of this whiskey look not to have been revealed, the rumor mill suggests its Canadian. Whatever the case, very limited official tasting notes offer up a description that reads “balanced caramel and oak aromas, with hints of rye spiciness.” It is said this whiskey can be enjoyed neat or as part of a cocktail.

As this is a boxed whiskey (not sure how I feel as I type those two words together), the container hosting this spirit lacks your traditional pour bottle design.  You instead have what’s said to be whiskey on tap, meaning you apparently pop out a special little tap built into the 1.75 liter box and pour your whiskey from it into your glass. This box, according to Esquire, is said to be both portable and shatterproof.

“Black Box has been a pioneer in modernizing premium boxed wines,” said Jaymie Schoenberg, vice president of Black Box Wines & Spirits, in a prepared statement printed by PennLive. “We were inspired to take the success we have had with our award-winning premium boxed wines and translate this into the spirits category – delivering affordable, convenient, high-quality spirits.”

Should you want to seek out Black Box Whiskey, it is available already in six states, including Colorado, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. Pricing around $25, it is boxed at 80 proof and released alongside boxed vodka and tequila offerings.
