Cask & Coast Spirits Co. is an independent blender of small batch bourbon, highlighting the aspects of the West Coast that can influence whiskey, including the heat of Southern California and the coastal range of the Pacific Ocean. The award-winning Cask & Coast California Bourbon Batch 2 is a four-grain reserve bourbon distilled and matured in Indiana, then finished for six months in California Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc red wine French oak casks at the Cask & Coast location in San Diego.
The original Cask & Coast Premium Reserve California Bourbon was released in 2022, and this Batch 2 has enjoyed a successful competition run, garnering gold medals at the New York World Spirits Competition, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and the San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge. These honors are well received by such a young venture, and it’s apparent that those behind Cask & Coast are passionate about the quality of the bourbon they put their label on.
Co-founder and CEO of Cask & Coast Spirits Co., Mark Kersey, traded in San Diego politics for the small batch bourbon path with his friend Richard Montaño, a certified sommelier, combining a knowledge of business with a passion for whiskey to create this import and blending enterprise, working with distillery partners across the country and bringing it home to finish with the limitless benefits of the West Coast terroir.

Vital Stats: Unspecified mash bill of a 4-grain blend of Corn, Rye, Wheat, and Malted Barley. Limited release of 500 bottles. ABV 51% (102 Proof). SRP of $69.99.
Appearance: The bourbon is a medium tone, golden chestnut color.
Nose: Much of the ordinary bourbon scents – vanilla, cherry, nuttiness, and a hint of orange.

Palate: There’s a bite mid-palate, which is pretty much when the flavor kicks in. Notes of roasted sweet potato, vanilla bean, and bittersweet chocolate are present, along with the faint presence of baked goods, reminding me most of a coffee cake.
