New Jersey’s Sourland Mountain Spirits Releases A Cabernet Cask Bourbon

New Jersey’s Sourland Mountain Spirits recently debuted its new Cabernet cask finished bourbon.

A distillery only special, the new expression is a single barrel release, aged for three years in a #3 char new American oak barrel, then finished for a year in a Cabernet wine cask.

The distiller’s notes describe the bourbon as rich and bold that on the nose features aromas of red wine, oak, and toasted brown sugar. On the palate, the initial taste is of sweet caramel flavors that transition into a dry, warming Cabernet finish.

Sourland’s mash bill features locally-sourced ingredients, 71% Pennsylvania corn, 17% New Jersey rye, and 12% Delaware barley distilled with mineral rich water from the Sourland Mountain aquifer.

The Cabernet cask finished bourbon clocks in at 102 proof and comes with a suggested retail price of $55 for a hand-numbered 375mL bottle. It is available online.

The Sourland distillery is located on a sustainable farm in the Sourland Mountains of Hopewell, New Jersey, and features farm-to-glass spirits production.
